ASHFIELD — A Chevrolet SUV encountered slippery road conditions while traveling downhill on Beldingville Road on Thursday night, causing it to go off the roadway and land in a brook.

Of the four occupants, one female was taken to the hospital by Highland Ambulance, according to Fire Chief Kyle Walker. She sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The other three occupants did not suffer injuries.

Walker confirmed the accident happened “due to road conditions.” He explained the vehicle struck an icy patch while traveling downhill, causing the driver to lose control. The SUV went over a 10-foot embankment and landed on the passenger side in approximately 1½ feet of water.

A male occupant was able to get everyone else out of the vehicle, Walker said, and the group walked to the nearest house to call emergency services. The Ashfield Fire Department, Massachusetts State Police and Highland Ambulance responded. Stagecoach Auto Repair of Charlemont removed the SUV.
